2027 MIDWEST CONCERTO COMPETITION

With MPO's move to Elmhurst University's Community Music Division and their revised performance schedule this season, we are also making some changes to our concerto competition format. Welcoming applicants from both MCM and MPO, and highlighting their continued collaboration, our competition will now be titled: The Midwest Concerto Competition (formerly The Midwest Conservatory Concerto Competition).

The 2027 competition will still feature a Junior and Senior Division, and up to three winners will be selected to perform their solo pieces accompanied by the MPO on their Spring Finale Concert on Sunday, May 23, 2027 at Elmhurst University's Hammerschmidt Chapel. The deadline for students to submit their video auditions is now extended until January 1, 2027. Interested students should begin talking to their teachers now about auditioning, and an information flyer with all the competition details will be shared soon. This is a wonderful opportunity to make leaps and bounds in your playing, gain lasting confidence in performing, and add a major accomplishment to your resumé. Plus, soloing with an orchestra is REALLY FUN!

~Open to Students of the Midwest Conservatory of Music and the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra~

Students must video record a performance, accompanied, of a movement from a concerto or work with
orchestral accompaniment. Selection MUST be from the public domain. For full consideration, the piece should be memorized. Using music is allowed, but will result in a deduction from the judges.

Video Submissions Are Due By 11:59pm on January 1st, 2027

This competition will be virtual. Judges are hired from outside of Midwest Conservatory, and their comment sheets will be provided to each performer upon the completion of the virtual competition.

The winners from each division will perform in person with the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, May 23, 2027 at Elmhurst University’s Hammerschmidt Chapel.
