JR MILLER
SAXOPHONE

Jeffrey “J.R.” Miller is a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for sharing his art. He started playing saxophone at age 9, going on to receive a BA in Music from Valparaiso University in 2008. Among his many musical adventures are performances in California, Switzerland, and the island of Malta. His interest in American folk styles has also brought him to stages such as Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago, even opening for Buddy Guy in 2015. Miller has extensive experience performing traditional music with West African congregations in the Chicago area, and is an avid student of African music styles. A recent performance that brings fond memories was with Michael Thompson’s “Shine” in 2018, which featured an orchestra and children’s choir at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, Illinois. In addition to saxophone, he is an accordionist, keyboardist, bassist, and vocalist. These varied interests inspire Mr. Miller to compose and record original music, which he self-publishes. As a saxophone instructor, it is Mr. Miller’s desire to show how lives can benefit from the discipline, learning, and fun that music brings in daily life.
